The Program
The NYC Teaching Fellows program recruits talented and dedicated individuals to raise student achievement in the New York City classrooms that need teachers the most.

Fellows become full-time teachers within a few months of enrolling. Today, most Fellows for our 2013 program will be trained to teach either special education or science (where shortages of qualified teachers are most critical) although a small number of Fellows may also teach in other subject areas.

Who Can Apply?
No previous teaching experience or education coursework is necessary. Fellows enroll in an intensive summer training program and then earn a subsidized master's degree while teaching in a New York City public school.

NYC Teaching Fellows com e from a wide range of backgrounds and careers but all share the same commitment to raising the academic achievement of children living in poverty. Strong applicants will demonstrate a track record of success in past endeavors, perseverance in the face of challenges, an ability to think critically, a desire to grow professionally, and an openness to collaboration and feedback.

Why Work in Math or Science Education?
• Competitive starting salary plus full benefits
• Subsidized masters degree in education
• Intensive, eight-week summer training and non-taxable training stipend

New York City schools have an especially critical need for qualified math and science teachers. Many students enter high school without a solid grounding in science or mathematics, closing doors very early for further education and better careers. STEM education offers students the opportunity to innovate and become competitors in the field.
