Managing Director of Global Sci-Tech Association (Upper East Side)

Managing Director of Global Sci-Tech Association (Upper East Side)

We are a global membership association of very high-level science and technology innovators: The World Technology Network. We are a small "virtual" (no central office) NYC-based organization, but quite well known. I am looking for someone to serve in the day-to-day leadership role, overseeing and handling most aspects of the organization, particularly one large, annual global conference (and awards program) -- now in its 12th incarnation, as well as other potential events/initiatives.

To get a taste of the scope of this TED-like organization and our annual World Technology Summit Awards, visit: http://fora.tv/conference/world_technology_summit_and_awards_2012

The job will include:

i) Event planning and logistics
ii) Delegate/participant marketing
iii) Database/list growth and management
iv) World Technology Awards nomination process
v) Website/Internet/Social Media (coordination with WTN webmaster/others)
vi) Public Relations/Media Relations/Press
vii) Exhibit/Demo/Sponsorship Sales (VERY IMPORTANT)
viii) Staff/support management
ix) Financial management/budgeting
x) Timeline management

We have few guaranteed financial resources and yet are an extremely prestigious organization, networked by definition with the key leadership of the technology world and partnered with such leading media players as TIME, Fortune, Technology Review, CNN, among others. We earn revenue through a variety of sources, including: nomination submission fees, delegate registration fees, exhibit/demo fees, and sponsorships.

My hope is to find someone who is willing to (and can afford to) take an entrepreneurial risk with, however, large financial upsides. I am the founder. I need to pass the day-to-day management baton to a new leader who will work with me to re-conceptualize the organization and then work to take it to the next level. You will potentially own up to 20% of the equity of the organization.

I am seeking someone who is: highly talented, creative, self-driven, meets deadlines no matter what, and is excited by the prospect of working indirectly and directly with a global community of leading technology players. Please have substantial event planning and logistics experience: business/program management experience, be extremely articulate in person and on the phone, have PROVEN sponsorship/exhibit sales experience, and a strong interest in cutting edge science/technologies.

  • Compensation: To be discussed. Equity pending milestones (and commissions on revenue)
  • Telecommuting is ok.
  • Principals only. Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster.
  • Please, no phone calls about this job!
  • Please do not contact job poster about other services, products or commercial interests.
