A postdoctoral position is available in a laboratory at a top-tier biomedical research institute in Manhattan, New York City. The laboratory focuses on understanding how inherited genetic variants lead to an increased susceptibility to cancer, with an ultimate goal of applying this knowledge to improved diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

We are currently seeking a talented postdoctoral candidate with a strong interest in combining the computational approaches in an effort of discovering and characterization of the genetic susceptibility to cancer. This will incorporate the latest advances in human cancer genomics, including next-generation sequencing, to identify the causal variants for cancer susceptibility and the additional genomic analyses to further explore their biological effects.

In our team and institute we offer a highly motivated research environment with multidisciplinary training opportunities and state-of-the art genomic and molecular technologies.

The successful applicant will have a doctoral degree and a strong research experience in either of the following fields: bioinformatics, genetic epidemiology or human genetics.

Required skills include:

• in-depth knowledge of high level programming language (e.g. C, C++, Pearl or other)
• prior experience with the application of bioinformatics in biological models (preferably human)
• basic knowledge of working in Linux environment
• familiarity with computing clusters (parallel computing - e.g. SGE or PBS)
• communication and writing skills

Non-required but helpful skills include:

• some prior experience with large genomic data analysis (e.g. microarray data, next generation sequencing)
• some prior experience in statistical analysis
• previous interactions with molecular biology investigators

The position is available any time after January 4th, 2013, and the applications will be accepted until t he position is filled. Interested candidates should inquire about more details at tk.genetics@gmail.com.
